I agree with your review. Muddled is the right word. Beautiful looking but didn't like FP or RS and the movie lost me pretty early on, plotwise. (Cons layered on top of cons with a side of double-dealing and sprinkled with a whole new lexicon of code words --- ow, my head! I suck at plot.)
I thought he did a great job. Other than that, my favorite part of watching the movie was observing how quickly my brain now identifies Callum in a scene. They would often not show him, full-frame, right away. Apparently a closeup of a chin, a finger...his ears *g* is all it takes anymore for me to hit my "Callum" buzzer. The opening...he's very far away from the camera, on a balcony, in darkness, but the small figure tilts its head and I'm all, "Aw, hi!"
My favorite moment. Tony: "You're a cop???" Mortensen, lounging gorgeously on the sofa with his hat over his eyes, lifts his hat off his head for a second. "Boo." :-)
