ruricHaving stepped over, around or turned a blind eye to the chaos immediately around me I spent a chunk of last week wrestling a semblance of order into parts of the flat.
I've surfaced cleaned and tidied my kitchen. The small bag of items to sort as part of the Boots Scan to Recycle scheme has been emptied and scanned and most items will be dropped off today (with the pending ones going either tomorrow or Wednesday). The other small bag of misc stuff has also been sorted, put away or chucked. My kitchen floor is clear of trip hazards, my work surfaces are cleared and I have a meal plan and a fridge, fruit and veg bowl full of healthy and nourishing food. The kitchen will have a deep clean in my first week off work.
I've also emptied and sorted 5 boxes of stuff and 2 bags of items that were cluttering up my hall, landing and stairs and audited my cat food stash so I can unfreeze my subscription. The cats get Untamed and Republic of Cats on alternate month subscriptions but yours truly stuffed something up a while back and I ended up with a 3.5 month stockpile! This has mostly been eaten so today I'll unfreeze one order to arrive mid-month and set the other to come in around mid September and then I should be back on track.
Now the boxes and bags have gone I can once again get into and out of the flat without having to shimmy past various obstacles. Alas my recycling box for plastics doth floweth over so I need to see if I can take any of those to the tip this lunchtime.
I spent quite a bit of time over the weekend deep cleaning the bathroom and now it sparkles and smells delightful and I have uncovered a bunch of bath bombs, lotions and potions and will be indulging like a hedonist for the whole month. I am fully embracing the concept of Use The Nice Things (*whispers* before the apocalypse comes).
Whilst cleaning the bathroom I realised there are 4 things I do need to do before autumn/winter sets in:
1. Book a service for the boiler. It's been behaving a bit oddly over summer (hot water cutting out mid-shower then coming back on again) and I think it may need a new pump.
2. Couple of minor plumbing tasks in the bathroom: I think the seal between the cistern and where it rests on the top of the loo may be showing some wear and tear and there's an issue with the pipe coming from the sink too (another minor leak). I'm debating whether to put on my big girl pants and You Tube a solution or whether it would be a better use of my time and way less stressful to just pay a plumber.
3. The outside of the stable door from the bathroom to the back garden needs sanding, staining and varnishing. I forgot to do it last year and it now looks rather sad.
4. Similarly the front door and front gate could do with a coat of paint before the rain starts!
I do need to review my To Do List of Doom - there were 300+ tasks on it in January. Some of those have been done but it's long overdue a proper review.
I'm currently 8 days into #Project65Days - seeing how many things I can get done before the end of September (current goal do 4 things a day) when hibernation mode sets in and I don't want to do anything apart from be a sloth until March!
Onwards and upwards - I have the morning off, a tip run at lunchtime and then will be working afternoon through evening. Time to get a wiggle on.
